The ATLANTICADE Motorcycle Festival has always paid tribute to Canada’s armed forces in some manner since the inception of the event back in 2007. This year’s 9th edition of the rally will continue that trend as organizers are partnering with both the CAV and UN NATO veterans groups to host a series of Legion Rides and a Veterans Poker Run.

The Legion Rides will take place on Canada Day, Friday and Saturday during the festival. On Thursday the Veterans Poker Run will be the focus starting with a biker’s breakfast at Moncton Legion Branch # 6 before heading out for the poker run. All participants will converge on Legion Branch #33 in Shediac prior to departing as a group for the Freedom Ride down Veterans Highway enroute back to Moncton.

Once back at Branch #6 there will be prizes, food, refreshments, entertainment, displays and a chance to mingle with residents of the Veterans Health Care Centre which is located across the street from the Legion.

“This recognition of our service men and women started unexpectedly back in 2007 when members of CAV showed up at our event” said chairman and festival founder Dale Hicks. “Our final parade that year ended at the Veterans Health Care Centre and our participants loved it. Ever since then we have made the military tribute part of our program.”

A total of 9 Legion Branches will be involved over the course of the event and all will be presented with donations at a supper event on Saturday evening inside the entertainment tent at festival headquarters dubbed “Salute to the Service of New Brunswick’s Military”.

Tickets for that event will be available to anyone for $15 per person and can be purchased at festival registration leading up to Saturday.

“Our committee wants to express our appreciation to both the CAV and UN NATO groups for getting involved with the event again this year” added Hicks. “We are certainly honored and proud to have them associated with ATLANTICADE.”
